In this section
After successfullycompleting the course, candidates should be able to:
- make reliable measurements of background noise and noise from a variety of sources, according to the requirements of the relevant British Standard or guidance document
- present and interpret measurement data in a form suitable for inclusion in a report
- identify in outline the principle methods of noise control to mitigate the impact of noise on the community
- explain measurement methodology and the data acquired, appreciate the measurement content of reports and environmental appraisals and comment on proposals for noise impact mitigation

The assessment has 2 parts
A written examination set by IOA The production of a competent noise report following a practical test.
(candidates should preferably have access to their own Sound Level Meter, however a small number of Sound Level Meters can be made available)
Candidates that pass both assessed elements are awarded the IOA Certificate in Environmental Noise Measurements.
The Certificate can be used toward Technical Membership of IOA (Tech IOA) (subject to relevant passes at GCSE).
The examination is held on the afternoon of the last day. (The examination time and date is set by the IOA.)
