This short course aims to enable participants to acquire an understanding of organisations and the behaviour which occurs within them.

Summary

Good managers are not only effective in their use of economic and technical resources, but also in their management of people. This short course aims to enable students to acquire knowledge and an understanding of the core areas of Human Resource Management (HRM) and the factors which influence behaviour within organisations. This knowledge and understanding is essential for effective and efficient management practice, in particular, effectively managing, leading and developing people. Learning will be by teaching, discussion and independent study.

About

Good managers are not only effective in their use of economic and technical resources, but also in their management of people. The rationale for this short course is to provide participants with an introduction to the principles of people management and the factors which influence and control both the structure of the organisational framework and human behaviour. Knowledge and understanding of human behaviour and the core areas of Human Resource Management (HRM) are essential prerequisites for effective and efficient organisational management.

This short course aims to enable participants to acquire knowledge and an understanding of organisations, the factors which influence their structure and the behaviour which occurs within them; to acquire knowledge and understanding of the core areas of Human Resource Management (HRM) and to be able to apply these in a range of organisational settings. This knowledge and understanding is essential for effective and efficient management practice, in particular, effectively managing, leading and developing people.

Assessment

100% Coursework - (1) Written assignment i.e. 2500 words on a research topic to include a thorough literature review around the chosen topic and clear evidence of extensive research into a chosen case study (60%) and (2) Presentation i.e. a 10 minute presentation to peers and members of staff to effectively communicate analysis, arguments and recommendations based on the research topic (40%).

Attendance

This course requires attendance for four full days from 9.15am to 4.15pm on 25, 26 and 27 March and 20 April 2020 (dates to be confirmed).

English Language Requirements

Applicants whose first language is not English must meet the minimum English entrance requirements of the University and will need to provide recent evidence of this (certified within the last two years).

Most of our courses require a minimum English level of IELTS 6.0 or equivalent, with no band score under 5.5. Trinity ISE: Pass at level III also meets this requirement.
