This qualification was initially created for front-of-house staff within the on-trade sector. It has grown into a course with global appeal, providing basic product knowledge to first time employees in the wine industry and the interested consumer alike. This course is aimed at people employed in the drinks and hospitality industries, with little previous knowledge of alcoholic beverages, as well as wine enthusiasts who wish to acquire in-depth knowledge of wines and spirits and want to obtain an internationally recognised wine qualification.

The aim of this one day course is to give a basic introduction to wine followed by some basic food & wine pairing.
This qualification was initially created for the front-of-house staff within the on-trade sector. It has grown into a course with global appeal, providing basic product knowledge to first time employees in the wine industry and the interested consumer alike.
Successful students will receive a certificate and WSET Level 1 Award in wine lapel pin.
- The main styles of wine
- The WSET Level 1 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine
- The Characteristics of the common grape varieties used to produce wine
- The Pairing of Food and Wine
- Health, Safety and Legal Issues
- Service of Wine
The course fee includes all wines required for the course, the WSET Study guide, examination fees (30 multiple choice questions), use of ISO tasting glasses and other tutorial costs.
To gain the Wine & Spirits Education Trust Level 1 qualification you must pass a multiple choice paper of 30 questions. The assessment will take place at the end of the day.
This course takes place on Ulster University Belfast campus.
9.15 am (for 9.30 am start) - 4.30 pm
This course is accredited by the Wine & Spirits Education Trust, successful completion will lead to an internationally recognised qualification.
You must be over 18 years of age to attend this course.
