In this section

For this reason, applied research in health psychology is developing rapidly. This short course will explore how psychological theory contributes to our understanding of health and illness, more specifically how behaviour can be modified to improve health, giving a general background to health education and promotion.
This course should be of interest to postgraduates who wish to further their understanding of psychology applied to health education and health promotion. Also those who are interested in a better understanding of how to design and evaluate a health promotion campaign.

100% Coursework – (1) Health Promotion Campaign - participants will be required to research a topic area, select a target group and develop a proposal for a health promotion campaign to combat a health compromising behaviour e.g. smoking or sedentary behaviour. The design will utilise a psychological theory pertinent to behaviour change. Participants will also be asked to design and develop methods which would allow them to evaluate the effectiveness of the campaign. This is designed to promote understanding of the importance of evidence based practice using problem based learning (50%) and (2) Set exercise - online activities will include extra reading and a series of tasks designed to complement the lectures and encourage a deeper and more independent level of learning. This will require participants to post reflections to discussion forums or to engage in live chat discussions on a specified topic. This work is an important part of the online experience and will be compulsory (50%).
This course is delivered online for 5 weeks with no on-campus attendance requirements starting 29 January 2018.
Degree in Psychology or Health-related area i.e. nursing, nutrition, allied health.
English Language Requirements
Applicants whose first language is not English must meet the minimum English entrance requirements of the University and will need to provide recent evidence of this (certified within the last two years).
Most of our courses require a minimum English level of IELTS 6.0 or equivalent, with no band score under 5.5. Trinity ISE: Pass at level III also meets this requirement.
