About

The objective of this short course is to introduce students to concepts in nutrition and health claims for foods, focusing on the EC Regulation 1924/2006 and the role of the European Food Safety Authority. In addition, students will become familiar with consumer understanding of nutrition and health claims worldwide and the concept of nutrition and health claims from an industry perspective.

*Note: It is suggested that participants should take IFST Short Course: FOOD LAW & FOOD REGULATION before taking part in this course.

• Regulation EC 1924/2006
• Role of The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA)
• Nutrient profiles
• Level of scientific substantiation
• Consumer understanding of nutrition and health claims
• Industry perspective of nutrition and health claims

Assessment

A multiple choice questionnaire will be offered to students as a tool for self-assessment of the acquired knowledge.

Attendance

This course is delivered online through the University of Ulster's Virtual Learning Environment.

This course is self-paced and open for enrolment at any time.
