Ulster University helped me achieve my current career success by...
developing academic, professional and employability skills to pursue a career within the ever evolving sports and educational industry.
Activities I was involved in at Ulster to enhance my employability
Organising Events: e.g. Sports Tournaments, Christmas Party, Ma's and Da's, Formal.
Practicals and Additional Qualifications: e.g. Gym Instructors, Pool Life Guard and Coaching Badges.
Placement and work based learning within Sports Coaching and Development.
How placement enhanced my employability
I was employed as Games Promotion/Sports Development Officer for over a year. I was required to plan, deliver, manage and evaluate all coaching activities within the schools sector, underage clubs, summer camps and development squads. This opportunity provided the necessary " hands on" experience to develop my professional skills.
Top 3 most significant steps on my career path so far
- Placement provided real world experiences and established links with potential employers within the educational and sports coaching sectors.
- Additional qualifications and CPD improved opportunities for employment and up-skilling within the competitive environment of sport and education.
- Deputy Head of School provided the management experience for career progression.
What would your advice to students be?
Volunteering: gain as much " hands-on" and real-world experiences as you can.
