Ulster University helped me achieve my current career success by...
offering a multi-disciplinary programme that gave me choice of what I studied in modules allowing me to effectively tailor my degree to my personal wants and needs. Ulster also provided a staff team who were friendly, approachable and offered their expertise and support fully along my degree programme.
Activities I was involved in at Ulster to enhance my employability
My placement year was probably the most helpful in making me more employable as it helped me to distinguish my strengths and weaknesses.
By studying a sports related degree, the coaching, teamwork and management elements of placement really helped me to learn skills that I can apply on and off the sports field.
How placement enhanced my employability
It helped to demonstrate my willingness to work and an early development of work-ready skills. It also helped me gain a better understanding of the type of job I wanted to go into. As a result I was able to talk more authoritatively and ask questions that resonated with employers.
Top 3 most significant steps on my career path so far
- Choosing to spend a placement year outside of the traditional ‘sport’ window
- Seeking personal development outside of my day to day work through participation in Learning & Development programmes.
- People – I have had the opportunity to work with some very influential and knowledgeable people – taking the step forward to introduce myself and try to have one ‘take-away’ from each of them.
