Ulster University Impact Excellence Awards

Celebrating Ulster University’s Civic Partnerships. The Awards celebrate the positive impact our students and academic staff are having on societies and economies, both locally and internationally. 

The Ulster University Impact Excellence Awards ceremony will take place on Thursday 3 May 2018 at Titanic Belfast.

  • Shortlisted, Employer self-nominations (Placements)

    Shortlisted, Over 50 Employees Placement Employers:

    The following three companies have been shortlisted in the, "Over 50 Employees" category:

      • Boston Scientific, Galway - Medical Devices
      • Brooklands Healthcare, Londonderry - Private Nursing Home
      • Bryson Care, Londonderry - Social Enterprise

    Shortlisted, Up to 50 Employees Placement Employers:

    The following three companies have been shortlisted in the, "Up to 50 Employees" category:

      • Conradh na Gaeilge, Belfast - Language awareness and protection
      • Profile Tree, Belfast - Digital Agency
      • Xsell-Team Limited, Belfast - Sales & Marketing

    Shortlisted, Public Sector Placement Employers:

    The following three companies have been shortlisted in the, "Public Sector Placement" category:

      • Northern Ireland Audit Office - Public Sector Audit
      • Police Service of Northern Ireland – Police force
      • South Eastern Health & Social Care Trust – Biomedical Science (pathology), Ulster Hospital

    Shortlisted, International Placement Partners Category:

    The following three companies have been shortlisted in the, "International Placement" category:

    • Bendigo Day Surgery, Australia - Surgical Day Procedure Facility
    • Meddeas, Spain – English language programme for private schools
    • Project Children Intern Program, USA - Cross community internship charity

    2018 Impact Excellence Awards Ceremony

    All shortlisted candidates will be invited to the awards ceremony, which will be held in Titanic Belfast on 3 May 2018.

    Shortlisted, Student nomination for placement employers:

    The following three companies have been shortlisted in the, "Student nomination for placement employers" category:

    • Cellular and Molecular Pathology Department, Antrim Area Hospital Laboratories, nominated by Lois Ann Wilson, BSc Hons Biomedical Science with DPP (Pathology).
    • Loud Mouth Media, Belfast, nominated by Nicole Hanna, BSc Hons Public Relations with DPP
    • Tourism Northern Ireland, nominated by Kimberley O’Hare, BSc Hons Communication, Advertising and Marketing with DPP

    Shortlisted, Ulster Staff Nomination:

    The following three companies have been shortlisted in the, "Student nomination for placement employer" category:

      • Cancer Centre, Belfast City Hospital, nominated by Terri Gilleece, Lecturer in Radiotherapy & Oncology
      • Consumer Council for Northern Ireland, nominated by Dr. Sinead Furey, Lecturer in Consumer Management and Food Innovation.
      • SITA (air transport communications), Letterkenny, nominated by Moira McCarthy, Employability Manager

    Introduction

    World-leading research is at the core of what we do at Ulster. Our people continue to deliver excellent research with global significance and meaningful impact that positively contributes to society as a whole. We collaborate with external stakeholders both locally and internationally to ensure our research is making a difference beyond academia.

    To celebrate this, the University seeks to award our partners who are collaborating with us to deliver impact, at the Impact Excellence Awards 2018.

    Academics and researchers were asked to nominate businesses, organisations or stakeholders where the partnership with Ulster University has delivered considerable impact.

    Categories

    Impact Excellence Award for Research

    The following three companies have been shortlisted for Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences Impact Excellence Award for Research:

    • UNITE the Union, Unison, Mandate Trade Union, the CWU Ireland, the GMB, Trade Union Campaign to Repeal the 8th, Alliance for Choice
    • Walled City Music Trust
    • Outlandish Co-Operative

    The following three companies have been shortlisted for Faculty of Computing, Engineering and the Built Environment Impact Excellence Award for Research:

    • Cedar-Foundation
    • CHIC and Members
    • The Lava Group

    The following three companies have been shortlisted for Faculty of Life and Health Sciences Impact Excellence Award for Research:

    • Northern Ireland Veterans Support Committee (c/o Reserve Forces and Cadets Association NI)
    • Sport Northern Ireland
    • Happy Mummy Baby Limited, Belfast, trading as Moment Health

    The following two companies have been shortlisted for Ulster University Business School Impact Excellence Award for Research:

    • SafeFood
    • Balcas Limited
