“Modern Muse" by Arpita Shah is a portrait series focusing on the ever-shifting identities and representations of South Asian women in the UK. Drawing from ancient Mughal and Indian art, Shah subverts traditional portrayals of women as passive muses. Collaborating with artists, creatives and educators, her work empowers her sitters, offering insight into their experiences and redefining the role of women in art history.
