Charlie Maxwell - Animation & Illustration
About Charlie Maxwell
When did you start taking an interest in art?
My first real interest in pursuing art began when I was 16, I had just begun studying portraiture and found myself intrigued by the techniques nd styles I could utilise to produce my work.
What course have you studied or currently studying?
I studied animation whilst at UU and graduated in 2017.
Who or What inspires your art?
I have always been inspired by nature and folk lore in my work, I enjoy animal studies and often find myself looking to other artists such as Alphonse Mucha and Harry Clarke for inspiration in my techniques.
Do you have any other interests?
I have a variety of interests outside of my art and animation. During my third year of university while on placement I took up and interest in jewellery design and silversmithing which, I continue to develop between my freelance work. I am also an enthusiastic baker and cook and I'm currently using my evenings to compose a collection of recipes which, I hope to illustrate and publish in the future.
What is your favourite memory of your time at Ulster University?
One of my favourite memories is of my final year of study, my class was organising our end of year gallery and showreel and to raise money for this I organised a bake and books sale. I had a lot of fun baking cakes, cookies and cupcakes with several other people from my course as well as getting everyone to donate their unwanted books for the sale.
What is next for you creatively?
Currently I work as a freelance animator and graphic designer but I hope to eventually begin working as a character designer and animator at a studio in London.
