Specialist Nurses To Benefit From New Online University Resource

A new online resource for specialist nurses, developed through a partnership between the University of Ulster and international medical devices company Coloplast UK Ltd, is being launched at the Royal College of Nursing in London today.

The Apollo Nursing Resource provides specialist nurses with access to essential management tools and advice, as well as offering the opportunity to collaborate with nursing colleagues from a range of specialisms across the UK.

Specialist nurses are highly educated practitioners working across key areas of healthcare including adult, children’s health, mental health and learning disability nursing in a range of hospital and community settings. They work closely with patients and families and are frequently the lead in terms of assessing, planning and delivering care.

Professor Carol Curran, Dean of Life and Health Sciences at the University of Ulster said: “Ulster’s School of Nursing has worked in close partnership with Coloplast to develop Apollo in response to the clear need that exists for specialist nursing support across the UK.

“As individuals and sometimes collectively, nurses can feel that they lack the preparation and tools to solve some of the wider challenges faced in their daily work. The Apollo resource offers a suite of support tools that specialist nursing staff can use to understand and solve problems, manage physical and financial resources, share problems and most importantly celebrate achievements and successes.

“Ultimately, it will help them to continue to deliver increasingly effective, high quality care. The university has been working with Coloplast for many years and is delighted with this latest partnership venture. We strongly believe that Apollo is a resource that has great potential to provide significant benefits to the daily delivery of specialist nursing care locally and nationally.”
