Dr Martina Murphy has been a Lecturer at the School of the Built Environment since 2010. Dr Murphy's main research interest is stakeholder competency in large-scale construction projects. The analytical framework includes evaluation of risk and project failure, application of FMEA, supply-chain management and the implementation of performance improvement strategies, DMAIC and lean manufacturing techniques.
Martina is a Chartered Architect who spent 14 years in practice in the UK and Hong Kong working on a range of projects from regional commercial projects to large-scale infrastructure. Subsequently, she obtained a doctorate from the Ulster University (2004) on the implementation of design innovations in the construction procurement process and produced the Innovation Management Model (IMM). She has sat on a number of advisory, Public and charity boards, including Royal Society of Ulster Architects (RSUA) for 10 years.
Dr Murphy is a member of the Editorial Board of The International Review Board of Archnet-IJAR- International Journal of Architectural Research (MIT Press) and reviewer for a number of peer-reviewed journals.
Recent research projects include investigation into the impact of stakeholder competency on the environmental management of BIM-generated infrastructure projects, and evaluation of people actions at the cost estimation stage of infrastructure projects. Both projects are being undertaken a means to determining sector improvements with potential for industry impact.
