Professor Gillian Armstrong Head of Department of Accounting, Economics and Finance, Ulster University
- Economic Policy Centre (EPC)
Professor Gillian Armstrong is Head of the Department of Accounting, Finance and Economics at the Ulster University Business School.
The Department strives to be recognised as a leading provider of Accounting, Finance and Economics education, encompassing both the delivery of high quality teaching (as evidenced in the National Student Survey), and the development of quality contributions to subject related research. The Department offers a well-established suite of academic and professional programmes, providing opportunities to study at undergraduate level, and from there to progress onwards postgraduate study. The academic programmes, full-time and part-time, gain significant exemptions from parts of the professional examinations of the major accounting and finance bodies.
In addition to her Head of Department role, Professor Armstrong's research interests and publications are in the area of food marketing and have been supported by industry (Moy Park Ltd.) and PhD research funding by DEL and DARD. In 2008 she established a joint venture between the Ulster Business School, Kent Business School and Dunnhumby UK. The venture was funded by DARD and with the support of Invest Northern Ireland, the project aimed to provide a workshop mechanism for small agri-food producers to access free of charge interpreted retailer loyalty card data. The project activities were crucial to providing small agri-food producers with a better understanding of market and consumer trends in order to diversify and move towards more added value offerings.
