Studiosity Student Connect Peer Mentoring Service

This service gives first year undergraduates the opportunity to chat online confidentially  with student mentors about their subject, assignments and general university life.

What is Student Connect Peer Mentoring?

A free online service for all first year undergraduates offering a safe space to chat and receive confidential support.

Get help on demand from another Ulster student, 11am-11pm.

Access one-to-one online support from a trained Ulster University Student Mentor who can talk you through assignment and exam queries, offer general advice on university life and signpost where you can access further support resources.

How do I contact a mentor?

  1. Activate your free Student Connect Peer Mentoring account by clicking on the button below or via the Student Connect tile within the Student Portal.
  2. When you log in, click on the ‘Connect to a Mentor’ button to begin your mentoring session.

It’s an online service so instead of face to face meetings you’ll chat with your mentor online – you can turn your camera off and do a voice call only, or you can just speak via text if that’s what you’d prefer. The choice is yours.

What can I talk to mentors about?

Anything you need support with.

Our student mentors are here to help you with topics like:

  • Settling into university life
  • How to manage your time at university
  • Making friends
  • Navigating your course, assignments and exams
  • How to take effective notes in class
  • General university questions about the library or car parking, for example
  • Signposting to where you can access further support for mental health and wellbeing

Our student mentors adopt a ‘help, not answers’ approach and are there to listen, chat and offer advice. They’ll provide you with direction, guidance, feedback and support.

Who are the mentors?

All of our mentors are friendly, welcoming final year Ulster Uni students who have faced the challenges of being a first year undergraduate themselves. They are all fully trained in how to help you.

When you log in, you’ll be matched where possible with an older year Ulster University student familiar with your course who can offer you guidance and advice. If there isn’t a student available who is familiar with your course, you’ll be paired with the next best match who will try to help. If they are not able to assist with specific course questions, they’ll refer you to a fellow student who can help.

What other support is available to students at Ulster University?

The Student Connect Peer Mentoring Service complements other mentoring services that are offered to students including the Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS) scheme that is available for some programmes, buddy schemes and other Studiosity Service that offers on-demand study help from subject specialists to all students. All Ulster University students also have free access to LinkedIn Learning courses to support their studies.

You can also check out our student wellbeing pages for further support resources.
