First Trust Bank/University of Ulster Distinguished Graduate Award 2009-10
John McMullan MBE John McMullan is the Chief Executive of the Bryson Charitable Group. He began his long association with the group in 1985 as a trainee on an employment programme for long term unemployed people with the then Belfast Voluntary Welfare Society. John served as the Northern Ireland representative on the national Landfill Tax Credit Forum, and ENTRUST (the regulator of the Landfill Communities Fund) on the operation of the scheme, as well as serving as Chairman of the Visiting Committee for Hydebank Wood Young Offenders’ Centre and Chairman of the Northern Ireland Boards of Visitors and Visiting Committee of Prisons. He was appointed by the Minister at the Department for Social Development as Chairman of the Northern Ireland Fuel Poverty Advisory Group until 2009 and by the Minister of State at the Department of Public Enterprise (Republic of Ireland) as a board member of the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (Sustainable Energy Ireland). As well as his professional life and voluntary activities John has managed to find time to successfully complete three awards at the University, having graduated with a Masters in Business Administration in 1993, a BA Honours Business Studies degree in 1991 and an HNC in Business and Finance 1987 John was elected a life Fellow of the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA) in 2007; and in 2009 was elected to the RSA Fellowship Council representing Ireland. He was made a MBE in the 1998 Birthday Honours List. |
