The
University has taken delivery of the only acclimatisation
chamber of its kind in Ireland and one of the biggest in the UK.
The chamber has been constructed in partnership with the Sports
Council Northern Ireland and will be part of the High
Performance Centre.
What has this got to do with business? Well
according to UU Director of Sport and Recreation Services, Dr
Nigel Dobson, it has a lot of applications. He told U2B: “The
chamber simulates some of the most inhospitable places on the
planet, with temperatures ranging between -20°C and 40°C and
humidity levels of up to 95%. It can also manipulate oxygen
levels to reproduce conditions at high altitudes of up to
15,000ft/4,600m. The chamber will be used not only by students
and researchers but also by external organisations and
professional athletes.”
So, if you want to test your product to the
limit we may have the solution. The Chamber offers a valuable
research platform that enables collection of accurate
qualitative and quantitative data on the performance of
products, equipment or systems under a range of environmental
conditions.
