Tip O'Neill Chair Michel Rocard, Prime Minister of France from 1988-91, is to deliver a lecture on conflict resolution at UU’s Magee campus. In 1988 as Prime Minister, M Rocard chaired the negotiations which led to the Matignon Accords, designed to bring an end to violence in the French Pacific territory of New Caledonia. His lecture will include a video presentation on his peacemaking work in New Caledonia. The event is organised by the University’s Tip O’Neill Chair in Peace Studies, and is sponsored by the Ireland Funds. Current holder of the Tip O’Neill Chair is John Hume MEP, MP. The event takes place in Lecture Theatre 2 on Friday 9 May at 6pm. ENDS M Rocard’s lecture is open to the public, and media representatives are invited to attend.
