Tip O'Neill Chair The CAIN Political Biographies, a comprehensive collection detailing life histories of leading figures in the Northern Ireland conflict, will be launched by Professor John Hume MP, next week. The profiles bring together the stories of key players who had a prominent role in the political and social life of the province over the past 35 years. The biographies will be made available via the internet on the Universities’ CAIN (Conflict Archive on the Internet) website: http://cain.ulst.ac.uk/biography/ This collection is the latest item to be added to the continually expanding resources available at CAIN. Dr Martin Melaugh, CAIN Director, said: “The biographies will complement existing information on the conflict and politics, especially the material on prominent organizations and the detailed chronologies. “The initial set of biographies has been compiled from a range of sources and was written by CAIN researcher, Dr Brendan Lynn. The information is easily accessible and available free of charge. It will be of great use to students, researchers, teachers and lecturers or to anyone with an interest in the political and social history of Northern Ireland.” Professor Hume, who currently holds the Tip O’Neill Chair in Peace Studies at Magee, will officially launch the new collection at 12.30pm on Monday May 19 2003 in Aberfoyle House, University of Ulster, Magee.
