Professor Mickey Keenan


Overview

Mickey Keenan is a former President of the European Association for Behaviour Analysis, a Fellow of the British Psychological Society, and a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA-D).

He has supervised 17 Phd students with 100% success to completion and has a record of 40+ invited addresses world-wide, 80 conference presentations, 80+ peer-reviewed publications in a broad range of topics (e.g., autism, gerontology, precision teaching, bereavement, sex abuse, video modeling, stimulus equivalence, schedules of reinforcement with humans and non-humans, private events, teaching about behaviour analysis; two Special Editions in Journals based on his work), four books (1 book translated into Japanese and German).

Mickey has received numerous awards for his community work in helping parents of children with autism. These include:

  • Award for Promoting Equality of Opportunity (British Psychological Society)
  • Distinguished Community Fellowship (Ulster University)
  • Making a Difference Award (BBC)
  • Personal Achievement Award (New York State Association for Behavior Analysis)
  • Award for Public Service in Behavior Analysis (Society for Advancement of Behavior Analysis)
  • Michael Hemmingway Award (Behavior Analyst Certification Board)
  • Award for International Dissemination of Behavior Analysis (Society for the Advancement of Behavior Analysis)
  • International Advocacy Award from Autism Speaks

He is the founder of the registered charity Parent’s Education as Autism Therapists (PEAT), and is a Trustee of the Cambridge Center for Behavioral Studies. Mickey spearheaded the Masters course in Applied Behaviour Analysis at Ulster University and lead two European projects to develop an online multimedia training course in Behaviour Analysis that has been translated into nine languages.

His interest in developing multimedia material for disseminating both applied and conceptual issues in behaviour analysis is also evident in his unique online tutorial, his YouTube presentations on misinformation on the use of ABA for autism in N. Ireland, his presentation in Stormont on how politics interfere with science-based-policy decisions for autism provision and his innovative approach to explaining how a science of behaviour addresses the topic of private events (i.e., thinking etc).

Mickey has organised 5 international conferences in N. Ireland on autism and Applied Behaviour Analysis, with radio and TV interviews on his work, as well as International interviews Science in Autism Treatment, B.F. Skinner Foundation ‘Operants’, and Pravada. He is a visiting Professor at Mazerack University, Czech Republic.
