Dr Eun-Mee Kim

Overview

Dr Eun-Mee Kim is a lecturer in Neurobiology, she is also Chair of the School Ethics Committee and Project Co-Ordinator for the Masters degree Conversion Course. Dr Kim obtained her M.Sc. degree from Seoul National University and her Ph.D. degree in from the University of Minnesota.

Research Focus

Dr Kim’s areas of research cover the neurobiology of Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease, and the roles of brain reward mechanisms in ingestive behaviour.

Research Interests

Dr Kim’s previously funded research projects include a Wellcome Trust grant for research on the role of opioids in reward and feeding behaviour, industry funding from Senexis Ltd for research on oligomer-induced behavioural decline in Alzheimer’s disease, and a European Commission award for research into the role of exposure to nanoparticles in neurodegenerative diseases.

Teaching

Dr Kim is Module Co-Ordinator for final year optional modules in Psychopharmacology and in   Behavioural Neuroscience.

Research Supervision

Dr Kim has previously supervised eight Ph.D. students and four Postdoctoral Fellows.

Administrative Roles and Memberships

Dr Kim is the Chair of the School Ethics Committee, Project Co-Ordinator for the Masters degree Conversion Course, Module Co-Ordinator for the final year optional module in Psychopharmacology, and for the final year optional module in Behavioural Neuroscience. Dr Kim is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and a Member of Alzheimer’s Research UK.
