Introduction

The University of Ulster Sports Development Unit,  has established the Sport 4 U programme to encourage and enable greater particpation in sport and recreation activities on each campus.

The programme is designed to encourage students and staff, regardless of their ability, to take part in sport and to enjoy the social and physical benefits that can be gained from regular involvement in sports activity.

Using a range of taster sessions, blocks of coaching, friendly competitive matches and coach education courses, Sport 4 U caters for individual and group involvement.  Whatever you want to get from sport, we aim to deliver a programme for you right here on campus.

Try Sport

The Try Sport element of the Sport 4 U programme is designed to help students (and staff) take advantage of oportunities by encouraging them to try a sport for the very first time.  It aims to encourage participants to broaden their horizons by offering taster, demonstration and coaching sessions, often within UU Sports Union clubs.  This may involve attending a one off "Come and Try It" or possibly 3 or 4 sessions over a specified period of time, depending onthe activities concerned.

Try Sport will be run on each campus and will be delivered by appropriately qualified coaches.  Entry is by submission of an application form which will be available from the Sports Centre Reception.  These sessions are free of charge for all UU students and staff.

Learn Sport

The Learn Sport element of the Sport 4 U programme is designed to enable participants to improve their basic skills and playing level in a sport of their choice.  Participants may wish to pursue a sport thay have not played in years, rush up sklls to improve their playing level, or simply progress in a sport recently experienced for the first time.

Learn Sport will run on campus and be delivered by fully qualified coaches.  Following completion of the coaching block participants may choose to get involved with one of the many Sports Union clubs or to participate in the Play Sport programme element.

Play Sport

Play Sport is designed to promote regular participation in sport and encourage social interaction among students and staff.  The programme provides students and staff with the opportunity to participate in friendly competitions and semi-structured activities in a variety of sports.  It is a chance to exercise, relax and enjoy regular participation in sport.

Play Sport is aimed at those with a keen interest in sporting activity, but who perhaps may not wish, or are unable, to commit to regular training or coaching sessions through a University sports club.  Entry is by submission of an application form which will be available from the Sports Centre Reception.

Coach Sport

New to the programme in 2007/08, the Coach Sport element of Sport 4 U will give students and staff the opportunity to attain coach education and/or leadership qualifications.  Linked to the numerous sports clubs at UU, generic and spor specific courses will be organised.
