At the University of Ulster we recognise that dedication in Sport takes time and effort. It can be difficult to get the balance right. That is why we have developed the Elite Athlete Entry Scheme - so those athletes who are committted to their sport should be able to acheive their twin ambition of
a) a quality education
b) perfomance at highest level within their sport

 

Who can Apply

Athletes competing at a representative level within their sport are invited to apply. Only participants of sports that are currently recognized by the Sports Council Northern Ireland / Irish Sports Council will be considered.

Assessment Process

An Assessment Panel meets to consider every application once the closing date has passed and due to the amount of applications expected, confirmation of acceptance to the Elite Athlete Entry Scheme is scheduled for:  5th March 2010. 

The criteria for defining an athlete as "elite" take into consideration such things as the level of representation in the particular sport, the future potential of the athlete/sportsperson and their willingness to represent their sport on behalf of the University of Ulster.

Applicants are likely to be asked to submit evidence in support of their application.

 

Important Notes

Applicants to the BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy, BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy, BSc (Hons) Speech and Language Therapy and BSc (Hons) Radiography will only receive a reduction of 40 UCAS points compared to the standard reduction of 60 UCAS points.

Health Professionals Admissions Test (HPAT) - The University is the sole provider of Allied Health Profession education in Northern Ireland and has built a strong reputation for high quality delivery accross the range of disciplines including; Dietics, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Podiatry, Radiography and Speech & Language Therapy.  As a result these course are becoming increasing popular and so to regulate this demand the University has sought to introduce a new test specifically designed for these professions. 

Applicants to BSc Hons Dietetics, BSc Hons Occupational Therapy, BSc Hons Physiotherapy, BSc Hons Podiatry, BSc Hons Radiography and BSc Hons Speech & Language Therapy must have satisfactory performance in the HPAT.  More information on the HPAT can be found at www.hpat.org.uk.  Gaining Elite Athlete Entry Status will have no effect onthis basic course entry requirement.

Applicants must obtain any specified course entry requirements and are reminded that Elite Athlete Entry offers are only valid for the year in which they are offered.  Applicants that are deferring entry to the University of Ulster will need to re-apply.

Elite Athlete Entry Status does not relate to students coming to the University from courses above school leaver entry level and will only be considered in relation to full time undergraduate courses.
