Studying in Hong Kong


SEMESTER OR YEAR IN HONG KONG

The University of Ulster has an exchange agreement with three universities in Hong Kong: City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Lingnan University.

Exchanges are for one semester or one academic year for undergraduate students of all appropriate disciplines.  The language of instruction is English and no knowledge of Chinese is required.

Costs

Students are responsible for a number of costs associated with study in Hong Kong. These costs include:

Air fares - return to the place of study

Accommodation and living costs -   A basic student budget is estimated to be around HK€4000 a month including meals, transport, laundry, books, study materials and stationery.  Accommodation in student residences will cost approx. HK€4000 - HK€7000 per semester. 

Medical insurance - If you are permitted to stay in Hong Kong for more than 180 days, you must apply for a Hong Kong ID card.  Once you have the HKID card, you will be entitled to use the government medical services at local rates.  It is also recommended that you take out suitable insurance for additional protection against illness, accidents and public liability.

Visa fees - all exchange students must obtain a student visa.  The current processing fee is approximately HK€160.  For more information look at: http://www.immd.gov.hk/ehtml/hkvisas.htm

Tuition fees - Students who are studying in Hong Kong will pay tuition fees to the University of Ulster. They will not pay any tuition fees at the institution in Hong Kong.

Note: You must inform your Education and Library Board and Student Loans Company of your plans to study abroad. 

Other costs - check the appropriate websites for other additional costs (e.g. application fee, Students' Union subscription fee etc.)

Application

Students wishing to apply to study at City University, Hong Kong should contact Clare Armour in the International Office. You must discuss your plans to study abroad with your Course Director to ensure that you can receive full credits for your studies in Hong Kong.
