Finding Online Legal Articles available in UU

This article is aimed at those of you who are not familiar with the range of legal resources available online in the University. The starting point for all legal queries should be the Library home page.

To search for articles on a specific legal topic, choose Electronic Resources followed by Databases. You need to choose one of the major law databases such as Westlaw or LexisNexis as they cover UK and international law journals, in addition to cases and legislation. You will find international journals under Power Search in LexisNexis and under Directory searching in Westlaw.

Another important legal journal resource is HeinOnline: an archive database covering older articles from a range of
international and UK titles. However, the simplest database to start with is Current Legal Information, although it is only available to PCs on campus. Most other legal databases are available on or off campus and will require your Athens username and password.

If you know which journal you require and have the reference details of the article, start at the Library homepage and select Electronic Journals from the Electronic Resources menu. Log in to TDNet - our new e-journals management system - using your Athens details and search for your required journal title.
If you cannot find the journal in TDNet, it would be wise to check the holdings in Westlaw and LexisNexis separately as they will include some titles not displayed in TDNet.

If the journal content is not online for the relevant year, check our print holdings to see if the article is in a journal on our
shelves. More detailed legal information is available at:

Remember, if you need help with any of these resources, you can ask any of the Social Science Librarians.
