Information Services Newsletter
IT User Services News
Welcome to another edition of our newsletter. In
this issue, we continue our series of thematic articles, this time
promoting our graphics design service. This is relevant to those
involved in promotional activities, the creation of digital learning
resources, the production of logos and a wide range of other products.
Our collaborative projects programme with Physical Resources continues
and a glimpse of what to expect at Belfast
in October is provided by Mr Mervyn Watley, Head of Planning and
Development in PRD. The detail of the new structure is becoming more
evident each week, and plans for fit-out of IT space, teaching rooms and
lecture theatres are in hand.
The uptake of new technologies in classrooms and the uploading of
teaching resources to the University’s WebCT
service can offer opportunity to reflect on “best practices”. We have
published a guide on our website for anyone creating documentation to be
available online for students. This article is of particular importance
as the adoption of the recommendations will significantly reduce print
times for your students and may also reduce the price of the hardcopy
production.
Our Corporate IT laboratory facilities are having an earlier make-over
than usual. Soon, 400 new systems will be operational in the Jordanstown
Learning Resource Centre and already our Macintosh facility in Belfast
is benefiting from 40 new high specification systems.
Infocomm Training Success
ITUS has an excellent track record in affording its staff opportunity to
reskill and to develop into new service areas.
Andrew Gribben has successfully completed the Infocomm Certified
Technology Specialist programme. This course covers the science and
technology used within audio, video, display and other communications
systems and is considered to be a foundation layer for other Infocomm
qualifications. Infocomm is well known in the US, and it is now being
considered appropriate for the European market. It is the only US media
technology qualification to be registered by the National Certification
Commission.
