Self-issue at the library: Check it out yourself!

You can now borrow books without waiting at the issue desk.... Some of you may have noticed a new presence in the Jordanstown Library across from the main issue desk. The Library has recently bought a self-service machine, that allows library users to issue books to themselves quickly and easily.

It is a very user-friendly machine with step-by step on-screen instructions. Users scan in their library card and then the books they wish to borrow. A receipt is printed as a reminder of what dates the books are due back.

To use self-issue, you must be in "good standing" with the Library, which means that you do not owe us any library fines, or do not have any overdue loans or have any other serious outstanding Library matters to resolve.

Why is self-issue a good thing?

  • because it means you don't have to wait in long queues

  • because you have more choice

  • because you have more privacy

  • because it means staff have more time to help with other things

Self issue is available at the Jordanstown LRC only, at present, but, after reviewing its operation there, we will consider extending the service to other campuses.
