RefWorks Bibliographic Management Software

The Library has purchased RefWorks, a web-based bibliographic management service that will allow you to create your own personal databases and produce bibliographies in a range of citation formats for publications. References can be imported easily from some Electronic Information Services such as CSA ASSIA (Applied Social Sciences Index and Abstracts) and ScienceDirect and from some Z39.50 compatible online databases on the Internet such as PubMed. References can also be typed in manually. Because RefWorks is web-based, you have the flexibility of being able to access your referencing databases from any computer connected to the Internet. You do not have to install the RefWorks software or to store your bibliographies on each computer you wish to use.

The Write-N-Cite plug-in allows you to insert references from RefWorks into a Word document as you are writing it.

The Bibliography function within RefWorks allows you to set your default export-referencing format and destination. This includes popular referencing methods such as Harvard and Vancouver. There is also customised referencing formats available for a number of journals and professional associations or publishers.

You must register individually with RefWorks using your Athens username and password.

University of Ulster Library staff will be able to assist you in making optimum use of this potentially useful resource. There is also a downloadable Help document at:
