DHCP Rollout Programme

Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is software that automatically assigns IP (or web) addresses to stations on the network. This year ISD has enabled every assigned building for the use of this service. Since DHCP dynamically allocates IP addresses, this removes the need to use fixed IP addresses for staff PCs. This will allow staff greater flexibility in the relocation of PCs. It will also simplify the installation of new PCs.

Staff PCs should now be re-configured for DHCP. Please contact your faculty IT technician for assistance if required. If a problem occurs during configuration that your technician cannot help you with, then please ask your technician to contact our Helpdesk on extension 66777. Staff in administrative departments that require assistance should contact the ISD Helpdesk directly.

Note: Failure to reconfigure your machine for DHCP may result in an IP address conflict. Any user who gets this error message should reconfigure their PC for DHCP and reboot their machine.

Staff that have servers and printers that would be required to keep their fixed IP addresses should contact ISD’s Helpdesk and notify them of the address that needs to be kept.
