Information Services Newsletter The European Documentation Centre (EDC) at Coleraine was founded in 1972. It contains a wide range of European Union publications and documents on paper and microfiche. These are augmented by various databases on CD-Rom and the Internet. The purpose of the EDC is to support teaching and research on all European Union matters within the university, allowing access to a range of EU documents and publications. The EDC is located on the first floor of the library in Coleraine South. The documents are available for consultation only, although they can be made available to other UU campus libraries on temporary loan. The EDC does not receive all EU publications, what we receive is very much down to the commission. The type of information we receive includes: The official journal, Commission Documents, European Parliament reports, Economic and Social Committee reports, Directorates General documents ranging from agriculture to taxation, and much more. We have created giving an overview of the EDC and other EU information on the Internet; http://www.ulster.ac.uk/library/craine/edc.htm There are also several paper indexes to direct you to publications and these are available in the EDC. There are several Internet resources available which cover the EU and its policies. Europa http://europa.eu.int/ is the official portal site for the EU, it provides up-to-date coverage of European Union affairs and essential information on European integration. Users can also consult all legislation currently in force or under discussion. The university has a subscription to Celex, which is the official legal database of the European Community. It includes full text of treaties, legislation, proposals and judgments of the European Court of Justice. This database can be accessed both within the university and outside with the appropriate passwords. You can contact either Seamus Wray in Coleraine library or Niall Burns in Jordanstown LRC if you have any queries about the EDC. Niall Burns
