Electronic Journals at the University of Ulster Library

What Electronic Journals Do We Have Available?

There are approximately 4,000 electronic journals available in the library from a variety of different sources. Library users have access to electronic journals for a number of reasons:

  • The Library has a subscription with a particular publisher, giving us access to their electronic journals.

  • We subscribe to the print version of the title and subsequently have free electronic access to the journal as well.

  • The title is purely an electronic journal and is available freely on the Internet.

  • The title is available through one of the Library’s full text online databases.

Articles from electronic journals are available in a number of formats. Most commonly, they are available as PDF files that can be ‘read’ using Adobe Acrobat Reader. Increasingly, articles are also available in HTML format with extra functionality, such as links to cited articles. ScienceDirect (Elsevier) and Ideal (Academic Press) both provide such a service. Many electronic journal hosting services, such as SwetsnetNavigator, now offer sophisticated searching techniques as well.

How Are These Electronic Journals Made Available?

Links to electronic hosting services and publishers’ own ejournal services are available from the Library’s EIS page. Most ejournal services are available off-campus and details are also given on the EIS page.

There is also an A-Z list of electronic journal titles available from the Library’s home page. The list can be searched by title keyword. Planned developments include a joint listing of print and electronic titles.
