Wireless Provision

Information Services is planning to make wireless network access available to laptop users during this academic year. The initial rollout was at the Magee campus (October 2005) in a project led by the Faculty of Engineering and in collaboration with DETI and Information Services. Services are due to be in place at Coleraine and Jordanstown by the end of December.

The wireless services will enable current staff and student users to access the University network via laptops (or PDAs with compatible wireless capabilities). At Magee, the coverage will extend to lecture/teaching rooms and laboratories as well as the LRC, canteen and Students’ Union. The coverage at Jordanstown will focus on the current Open Access Area in the LRC, Block 8 Mezzanine and the foyer in Block 16. At Coleraine, initial zones will include the main Library, L002a and the Bridge/Shopping area.
