Virus Protection
At the start of September, the University suffered
another virus outbreak. This caused disruption to the network infrastructure
for several days. The origin of recent outbreaks was traced to infected
laptops that had been connected to the University network. Some basic
security measures can dramatically reduce the effect of these outbreaks.
Windows Updates
Ensure that the PC is configured to automatically download Windows Updates.
If you are prompted by the operating system to action any installations,
please ensure that these are completed.
Anti-virus Software
Ensure that antivirus software is installed on your PC. It should be
configured to automatically update its virus definition files.
The University has a site licence for McAfee antivirus software and staff
should ensure that this is installed on their PCs and laptops.*
*Laptops should never be
connected to the University network unless the above two steps have been
undertaken.
If you require help checking the above configuration on your PC/laptop
please contact your faculty support for assistance.
