Library Information Skills Training

As you know, the five Subject Librarian teams in the Library represent each Faculty and are co-ordinated cross-campus through leadership of the Sub-Librarian. This allows each team to specialize in supporting the information needs of the Faculty so offering a tailored subject-based approach. The Subject Teams’ home pages provide the first point of access to these specialised subject resources, pulling together the various electronic information services,
e-journals and relevant web-sites as well as many other services.

It is important that we support our users’ information needs and part of this includes the Information Skills training offered by the Subject librarians. Subject-specialised classes and workshops are delivered on request. Indeed, that represents a substantial part of our work for several weeks at the beginning of the academic year. We would like to encourage you to continue asking us for these classes. They can be delivered normally at a time and location that
suits you. Depending on your requirements, they can range from a basic one-off class to a more complex programme delivered over several hours. The effectiveness of such sessions increases when the subject-librarians are advised of the assignment titles and so can use these to tailor the content to a motivated audience at a point of need. Advice will also be given on the evaluation of quality resources, citation and bibliographic software such as RefWorks. Contact details of the faculty subject teams are available from the Library home-page.
