Information Services Newsletter
News from IT User services

Welcome to our first issue of the Newsletter in 2003/04. Major service improvements have taken place since our last issue and these are reported elsewhere in the Newsletter.

2003/04 will, again, be a significant year in terms of further major service-related developments. A priority development area is that of developing “digital classrooms”; our initial schedule of rooms to be targeted is approved and the complex process of contracting out the work is in hand. Approximately 120 IT laboratory PCs are to be replaced by February 2004, further improving service quality through the removal of Windows 98 systems.

Our first public set of service performance figures are nearing completion and will be published on our pages. Already since start of semester we have dramatically reduced the number of PCs unavailable through student misuse and this trend is likely to continue. Our student induction programme was, again, very well attended thus providing freshers with the much needed basic information on how to make use of our faculties and services.

Ongoing development of staff induction and training events has resulted in sessions associated with the facilities within digital classrooms being held. Further events are to be arranged. Major building developments are planned for the Belfast campus, where in due course, we will have the benefits of a new LRC; a facility already proven to be immensely popular at Jordanstown and at Magee.
