Distance Learners/E-Learners: Library Support and Services With the growth of e-learning courses in the Faculty, the library is very aware of the need to fully support students studying in this mode. If you are a lecturer planning a new e-learning course or module, please contact the library subject staff so that we can provide advice and support for your students.

Services include:

• Web-based guides and brief checklists for each course. To see examples, go to the drop-down menu for Resources for E-Learning Courses, and view all the guides currently available.

• Module Resource Lists online.

• HERON service for copyright cleared and digitised articles and chapters of books.

• Document Delivery: Online request form for Inter-Library Loans/Document Delivery. Articles scanned on to Web when possible.

• In summer 2003, we cooperated with the librarian at Häme Polytechnic, Kari Mikkonen, who was able to deliver information resources and skills training to Disaster Relief Nurses attending their induction there. We provided her with all the training materials and access details. It worked very well and it may be a model for other collaborative courses in the future.

• One-to-one support by phone and email.

• Our Customer Support Librarian Ciaran Cregan has an overall responsibility for Distance Learners among other groups of students.

Journal Citation Reports

Do you need to check the impact factor of journals and their rating? The library now subscribes to the ISI Journal Citation Reports online. These include journals in the Science Citation Index and the Social Sciences Citation Index. You can access this from on- or off-campus using your Athens username and password. To find JCR, go to the library’s Electronic Information Services page at: http://www.ulster.ac.uk/library/electronic/ and select Journal Citation Reports.
