New Information Sources for
Accountancy
Staff and students now have library access to the up-to-date
CHARIOT CD-ROM produced by the Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAI).
The CD-ROM is the main advice tool for Chartered Accountants in Ireland
and contains full-text information on relevant company legislation and
accounting standards for both the Republic of Ireland and Northern
Ireland. CHARIOT (Chartered Accountants Reference and Information Tool)
replicates the contents of the Institute’s six-volume member’s
handbook. Copies of the CD-ROM are available for consultation from the
Issue Desks at Coleraine and Magee as well as from the Information Point
in the Jordanstown Learning Resource Centre (LRC).
Also on CD-ROM, the Library
has recently purchased a copy of GAAP Xtra which is an extensive financial
reporting resource. It contains all UK and International Accounting
standards, Companies Acts and Auditing Standards, along with over 1,500
pages of practical advice from the current GAAP. To provide research
support to the School of Accounting, GAAP Xtra is available for
consultation at the Information Point in Jordanstown’s LRC.
Database Developments
There have been a number of
recent developments regarding our range of business databases.
-
Access to the FAME
database of UK/Irish company accounts and financial ratios is now
available on the Web. This allows greater search flexibility as well
as off-campus access using your ATHENS username/password.
-
The range of full-text
market reports available through the Mintel database service has
increased significantly. All UK and Ireland standard reports are now
accessible along with the complete range of Travel and Tourism
Intelligence Reports – totalling nearly 500 individual reports.
-
The database ‘Articles
in Hospitality and Tourism’ is soon to merge with another database,
‘Lodging, Restaurant and Tourism Index’, and is to be re-launched
as Hospitality & Tourism Index. This new service will be a key
database in supporting teaching and research in the School of Hotel,
Leisure and Tourism.
-
The Lexis-Nexis database
contains a wealth of full-text business and newspaper sources as well
as legal information. It includes access to many important business
journals which are not available to us elsewhere in electronic form,
such as Harvard Business Review. It also recently added some important
Irish company databases such as ICC Financial Analysis Reports and ICC
Directory of Irish Companies. A username/password is available from
the Library or our electronic information web pages.
