Common Desktop in IT Laboratories

The Common Desktop Environment (CDE) in corporate IT laboratories has been upgraded for the academic year 2002/3. Applications accessible from the new desktop are:

•  MS Office 2000 Professional
•  Pegasus
•  IE 6.0
•  SPSS 11
•  Vista Exceed 7.0

We have introduced a background process to remove applications downloaded by students. This action will reduce the workload required to maintain a stable environment and maximise the number of PCs available.

The operating system remains as Windows 98, however we are devising a dual boot Windows 2000/98 service. It is piloted at Coleraine. We plan to use Windows 2000 from October 2003 after all subject specific applications have been tested for compatibility.
