Information Services Newsletter FACULTY OF BUSINESS AND MANAGEMENT Portrush Library Following the amalgamation of the Northern Ireland Hotel and Catering College with the University of Ulster in August 2002, considerable progress has been made to integrate the Portrush library into the University library network. All of the Portrush bookstock has now been added to the University's web catalogue and, for the first time, users can access the catalogue of Portrush material themselves. Some rationalisation of the periodicals collection is to be undertaken before it is added to the catalogue, though it is hoped that by early next year Portrush's periodicals holdings will also be searchable from the University catalogue. An additional £6K of library stock has been ordered to support those degree programmes new to the Portrush site - much of this material has already been received and added to the collection. In cooperation with the School of Hotel, Leisure and Tourism, consideration will be given, during the course of the coming year, to the transfer of appropriate material from the Jordanstown and Magee libraries to Portrush. This transfer of material will take place gradually over the next three years as we continue to support staff and students of the School based on each of the three sites. A full programme of library classes have been organised for new and returning Portrush students. These classes will help the students make effective use of the full range of print and electronic business resources currently available to them. Classes have been organised for both Foundation degree students and, through the BITS project, those completing primary degree programmes. Gerard McFall |
