What is Live@edu?

The University, in co-operation with Microsoft, is providing all students with a communications environment which includes a hosted email service known as Live@edu and an online data storage service known as Skydrive.  Both new and returning students will be provided with new Live@edu accounts.

Email Skydrive
the Live@edu email service replaces the student Netmail service the Microsoft online storage environment
your mailbox capacity is 10 Gb 25 Gb of disk space
spam and virus filtering you can grant other Skydrive users access to specific files
access via many platforms

-  Safari for Mac
-  Opera for Windows
-  Firefox (Mac and Windows)

Note: Google Chrome users are able to log into their Live@edu account and open emails but may not be able to reply or compose new messages.
Information Services would therefore recommend that students use alternative web browsers such as Microsoft Internet Explorer, Safari and Firefox to access Live@edu, either directly using the Outlook Live link or via the University Portal, which is our preferred route.

What Happen s When I Login for the First Time?

When you first access the Live@edu service, you will be prompted to change the original password provided by the University. Your new password should be at least six characters in length and, preferably, contain a mixture of letters, numbers and other characters. It is also good practice to select the ‘Make my password expire every 72 days’ option.

You will be asked to provide a ‘Secret Answer’ to a specific question. This may be required if an issue arises with your account at a later stage. You will also be asked to provide an alternative (personal) email address (this may be used if a password issue arises).
