Who may use Network Services for Laptops?

Laptop Network Services are available to any student, staff or visitor to the University that holds a valid (current) University account.

There are three Network Service offerings over wireless, web and email access using Student and Visitor and full network access using Staff.  All offer tailored Internet access in defined areas within each campus of the University – see Network Access Locations around the University for details.

Student  - this service is available to all students in the University.  It is an unencrypted service that provides web and email access.

Visitor - this service is the same as that offered to students and is available for visitors to the University once they are registered with University Visitor Accounts.

Staff - this service is only available for use to University staff.  It provides encrypted secure access to the University network using 802.1x.

Users of the wireless service may see other services advertised.  These other advertised services are restricted to the research groups or departments that have requested them.

Wireless Users in Wi-Fi Zones:

To comply with University access policies, users need to authenticate (login) using a University issued username and password before they can access University network resources.  Authentication is based on:

Student Student ID and current network password
Staff ecode and current Exchange password
Visitor Vcode and visitor account password
