Use of Laptops in Wireless
Zones and Open Access
Centres Terms and Conditions of Use Access to and use of University Network Resources is governed by the University’s Acceptable Use Policy and Wireless Communications Policy. Users must be familiar with and agree to the requirements stated in these documents. Network Management The University retains the right to monitor network resource use to manage the performance of the service and will retain such information as to provide traceability in the course of an abuse investigation. Information Services has safeguards in place to prevent infected laptops compromising the University network. User Support The service is operated to nationally defined standards. Anyone connecting to the network via this service does so at their own risk. Service users are expected to make themselves aware of how to operate and administer their own computer systems and therefore no specific service support will be provided to configure or correct issues with personal machines. User Responsibility Users must ensure that: · They agree to the University’s Acceptable Use Policy and the Wireless Communications Policy before proceeding. Anyone found to be in breach of these policies will have their account disabled and, depending upon the severity of the breach, may be subject to disciplinary proceedings. · Their laptops are free from viruses and have their Operating Systems (e.g. Windows) fully patched and up-to-date. · Users must not disconnect any PC power leads, network cabling or other active equipment to enable laptop use. · Laptops may only be used in the designated Open Access Areas and Wireless (Wi-Fi) zones – see Network Access Locations around the University. Anyone using laptops outside these designated areas will be in breach of the University’s Acceptable Use Policy. |
