IronKey - Secure Portable Storage Device |
Service Description |
Information Services has introduced a technology, called IronKey, that secures data which is automatically encrypted by the device. This service allows the University to meet compliance and data protection requirements, as sought in recent audits. Our Service Desk team manages deployed devices and, if necessary, they can remotely disable them and wipe data, for example in the case of theft or loss. What is IronKey? IronKey is an encrypted USB pen drive that can store sensitive data securely. It is password-protected and if an unauthorised person attempts to access the drive by trying different passwords, all data on the drive will be wiped after 10 successive, failed attempts. If someone physically tampers with the device, a self-destruct sequence is initiated. The device can be managed remotely so that, in the event of a loss or theft, it can be disabled or terminated via the internet. The key features of the IronKey Enterprise service are listed on their website. |
