Service Description |
Information Services has introduced a technology, called FreeAgent GO that allows users to backup data from PCs or laptops which is automatically encrypted by the device. This service allows the University to meet compliance and data protection requirements, as sought in recent audits. Our Service Desk team manages the delivery of the devices. What is FreeAgent GO? FreeAgent GO is an encryptable external hard drive that can store sensitive data securely. It is password-protected. |

FreeAgent GO Application Procedure Please download and
print our
application form. You must have approval from your line manager and must
provide the appropriate cost code. Send the completed forms to our Service
Desk. Once the application has been processed, our Service Desk will send
you a confirmation email stating where you can collect your device. When
your FreeAgent GO is registered with the FreeAgent GO website, you will
receive an automatic email containing your own FreeAgent GO Activation Code
. Please retain this email - you will need it for the activation stage!
Finally, collect your FreeAgent GO from ISD and follow the device activation steps outlined in our user guide. The user guide will be emailed to each person who obtains a FreeAgent GO hard drive. |

Employees of the University who retain, or are likely to retain, confidential data on a PC at home or in the office, are strongly advised to purchase a FreeAgent GO device via Information Services. |
