Provision of Research Skills Training for Doctorate Students |

Service Description |
All PhD (DEL and Council-funded) researchers / students must undertake at least 2 weeks training, annually. This is normally done as a combination of attending 'block training' events, ad hoc training sessions and departmental generic training. As part of this, the Research Development Programme Adviser (Staff Development Unit) manages a Generic Research Skills Training Programme which includes a half-day library course on developing information research skills to make the most effective use of the Library's available resources. The course is delivered by the relevant subject librarian(s) through a combination of presentations and practical hands-on skills development sessions for the participants. |

The focus of this course is on the development of the skills necessary to identify, locate, evaluate and record quality information relevant to in-depth postgraduate research. By the end of the course participants will be able to: | ||||||||||||
The course is run at the start of each semester and promoted by the Research
Development Programme Adviser but may be delivered at any time during the
academic year depending on when new research students register to undertake
their doctorate. Subject Librarians are dependent on being notified of when
these new research students have completed the registration process. |
Arrangements for the delivery of these Generic Research Skills Training sessions is made by the Research Development Programme Advisor at the start of each semester or by the appropriate Subject Librarian when notified of new research students. Supporting Materials Acceptable Use Code of
