Service Description |
In agreement with the University Disability Support Service, the Library provides a number of "enhancements" to students who are referred to us by Ulster Disability Services. These can include one-to-one sessions with Subject Librarians, assistance with finding and retrieving materials on our shelves, extended loan periods, provision of Alternative Format copies of books for visually impaired students, provision of private study spaces, and facilitating access to assistive technology. Full details can be found at: http://library.ulster.ac.uk/info/disabilities/ |

Business Process |
These "enhancements" are designed to offer all students an equality of
service. Our intention is that any impediment or difficulty in using library
services caused by a student's disability can be lessened or ideally
removed. Students will only be able to arrange initial meetings during normal daytime working hours but after that service "enhancements" should be available during all Library opening hours. If a student has not taken part in the Ulster Disability Services assessment process, we will have no way of knowing about a student's disability related requirements. |

How to obtain help |
Most user assistance will be offered in an initial one-to-one session with a Subject Librarian, but further help is always made available as a priority by senior front-line library staff. |

Who can avail of the service? |
All University of Ulster students can avail of this service, but we would usually expect a student to be initially referred to us by Ulster Disability Services. Students who request these services but who have not been referred to us will be accommodated, but we will suggest they contact Disability Services to arrange a referral. |
