Welcome

The Centre, a recognised research group within the School of Law aims to foster understanding of Human Rights broadly interpreted, emphasising their potential in peace-building and the development of vibrant civil societies founded on respect for the Rule of Law. The Centre will do this through its research, teaching, training and consultancy activities and by producing publications of international excellence.

The Centre carries out work in the fields of international human rights and humanitarian law and equality and anti-discrimination law and policy. It focuses in particular, though not exclusively, on:

  • Rights to equality;
  • Third generation rights;
  • Human rights and policing
  • The accountability of the police, army and other security forces;
  • The rights of workers;
  • The rights of minority groups and peoples;
  • The rights of women and children;
  • Access to justice issues;
