Access, Digital and Distributed Learning

At Ulster University, we are committed to increasing participation in higher education and to providing teaching and learning that is flexible and accessible. Our dedicated Department for Access, Digital and Distributed Learning (ADDL) work across the University to:

  • lower barriers to higher education;
  • curate a high quality and accessible digital campus; and
  • provide flexible learning solutions for professional development and continuing education.

ADDL delivers its services and provision through its three constituent departments as below.

The Office for Digital Learning aims to enhance the online learning experience of on-campus students of the University as well as those enrolled on distance learning and out-centre courses.

The Office supports the Virtual Learning Environment – Blackboard Learn.

The Centre for Flexible and Continuing Education, in partnership with Faculties and University Departments, provides flexible learning solutions for professional development and continuing education.  Additionally, an enhanced curriculum experience is supported in relation to funding and real life ambassador experiences whilst studying at the University.  Working with individuals and groups from business, industry, community and voluntary sectors to identify learning needs.

Widening Access and Community Engagement Sub-Committee The Widening Access and Community Engagement Sub-Committee (WACESC) has a remit to keep under review and, as appropriate, advise and make recommendations in relation to the University’s Access Agreement, Widening Participation Strategic Assessment and student application and entry profiles. Furthermore WACESC has a role in overseeing and monitoring the development and implementation of a programme of innovative activities to help the University achieve its aims in relation to widening participation thus maintaining its position as a sector leader in widening access to higher education. Drawing its representation from Faculties and Departments, WACESC is tasked with bringing about an institution-wide understanding of the objectives, policies and practices pertaining to widening access and participation.
