The reason the clergy are so dreadful is, of course, that they are recruited from the laity. Contrary to popular belief, I was not parachuted down from heaven, but was once as earthy as many of you – even if somewhat nicer.

My further civilisation greatly preoccupies my wife, who is Rector of Armoy. Our children, both graduates, love home life so much that they currently reside in Australia and Russia.
