The University’s international profile was bolstered by a number of significant events and developments. These included the visits of high ranking delegations and individuals to the University and our own work in bringing the University’s message to overseas partners.

The Vice-Chancellor presided over a Graduation Ceremony in Dhaka, Bangladesh, in March 2001.The ceremony marked the successful completion of the University’s Master of Arts in Government Financial Management by 16 cross-cadre officers of the Government of Bangladesh.

The Chief Guest at the Ceremony was the Honourable President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed, who presented the award certificates to the officers.

A senior delegation of University staff led by the Vice- Chancellor visited China and Hong Kong. The delegation visited the prestigious Tsinghua University to follow up earlier discussions on research collaboration. A visit to Shenyang, Liaoning Province followed, where the Vice- Chancellor signed agreements of co-operation with China Medical University and Liaoning International Exchange Centre. Professor McKenna also visited Liaoning Experimental High School to meet the Principal, Wang Zhao He.

Main event
The main event in Shenyang was the University’s Graduation Ceremony for graduates who completed the MBA at the Jordanstown campus of the University. Guest speaker at the ceremony was the Deputy Governor, Education and Public Health, Zhao Xin Liang. During the visit to Shenyang the Vice-Chancellor also met with Executive Deputy Governor, Guo Ting Biao, who visited Northern Ireland in September.

Hong Kong
The delegation visited Hong Kong where the Vice- Chancellor addressed the Irish Business Forum. The final event of the visit was the graduation ceremony for graduands of the University’s programmes at Hong Kong College of Technology International, the School of Professional and Continuing Education, University of Hong Kong and our Coleraine campus of the University will be graduating. The guest speaker was Greg Dorey, Acting Consul-General, British Consulate-General.
