Emmet Diver is in the process of completing his Commercial Pilots License with FlyBe.
"I can't thank Step-Up enough for the opportunity that has been presented to me. The programme helped me develop academically and as a person in general. I was guided to study Mechanical Engineering at the University of Ulster which has led to me being chosen to train as an airline pilot."
Catherine Feeney worked as a Physiotherapist in Altnagelvin Hospital, before taking up a position in Canberra Hospital in Australia.
"I was one of the first students to complete the Step-Up programme. I found it very daunting at first — it was hard work but the experience really encouraged me and gave me the confidence to study at university. I never dreamt that I would be able to attain so much, but thanks to Step-Up I have! I studied Physiotherapy at the University of Ulster and graduated with a 2:1."
Nicole McIntyre is now working as a Radiographer.
"I hadn't expected to go to university. When I was growing up most people went straight into work once they finished their GCSEs. Step-Up helped me with the transition into university through the practical aspects of the course and the confidence that I developed over the two years. I got the opportunity to be involved in things that I would never have been able to do studying a normal A-Level course. It was wonderful to receive the Boston scholarship, as it was a great cushion that helped me to get through my four years at Jordanstown."
Barry Tierney is currently working as a Staff Nurse in the Intensive Care Unit of Altnagelvin Hospital and studying for a Masters degree in Nursing.
"I chose to study Applied Science with Step-Up as the subject gave me a wider range of career options and was really hands on. I achieved 'BB' grades in the GCE Applied Science A-Level and progressed to study Adult Nursing at the University of Ulster. I was the first in my family to attend university. I graduated from the course with a First-Class Honours degree."
